The celebration was organised under the theme, “Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Tourism.”The major highlight of the day was a roundtable for officials of the Ministry of Arts and Culture chaired by the Minister, Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.The officials brainstormed on ways to improve the conservation of monuments and sites in Cameroon.The International Day for Monuments and Sites was approved by the 22nd UNESCO General Conference in 1983.Experts in the domain of tourism on this day highlight the importance of cultural heritage, promote awareness of its diversity and enhance its protection and conservation.The International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) is the body spearheading commemorative activities of 18th April worldwide.The 2017 theme, according to ICOMOS, was chosen to highlight the United Nations International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development and in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals.Eleanor Ayuketah
