Cameroon observed the eleventh Annual World Autism Awareness Day on Monday 2nd April 2018. In Cameroon the disorder remains a mystery in spite of proven scientific evidence.World Autism Awareness day has been set aside to highlight the daily challenges faced by people living with autism around the world.Many years of sensitization has seen the growing global health concern gain more awareness.Yearly activities are also planned to increase and develop world knowledge of the disorder.That not withstanding, in Cameroon like some African countries, Autism is still considered a mystery or witchcraft.Apart from this, a major roadblock is the huge finances needed to manage the patients.Medical practitioners have been very active educating local communities on Autism-related symptoms.The Chantal Biya Foundation is one of the centers that takes care of children with autism.To add to the global awareness campaign, the United Nations will on Thursday, 5th April 2018 discuss the importance of empowering women and girls with Autism . Ahead of the day, the UN Secretary  General , Antonio Guterres says  “On World Autism Awareness Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to promote full participation of all people with Autism and ensure they have the necessary support to be able to exercise their rights and freedoms”Autism is a developmental disorder that affects a child’s ability to interact and communicate.Autism requires medical diagnosis and care.The health disorder can lat for years or a lifetime.The official color for the National Autism Awareness month is bright royal blue. The colors represent the diversity of people and families living with the health disorder.There are three major types; # Autistic Disorders also known as Classic Autism. # Asperger Syndrome # Persuasive Developmental DisorderKathy Neba Sina
